General Airline and Film is the true name behind GAF Roofing Company. Although the company has been manufacturing roof systems since 1886, it also diversified into other industrial products. In the 1970s, GAF became the official film of Disneyland. Transitioning from construction materials to specialty products seemed like a big leap but commitment and creativity became the guiding principle of the GAF people. The company is so committed in developing revolutionary products that it also developed metal ductwork and fiber-cement siding. The venture into the film camera and projector is peak in the company’s quest for innovation.
At present, GAF is continuing its intensive research and development with focus on roof systems. Aside from the more than a dozen shingles which are energy-efficient and impact-resistant, the company has also invented the roof deck protection which protects the shingles from the harsh effects of strong winds and rain. Ventilation systems that range from the simple to solar-powered roof vents is also part of the company’s pride in high technology innovation.
